What a delight this is: many thanks for posting it.
my pleasure aitch. i take it this is lodged deep in your subconscious as well? there a actually a whole slew of spots from that era of sesame street i can conjure up perfectly with only the slightest visual prompting…
My daughter and I saw this referenced on ‘drawn together,’ that sick-ass cartoon reality show on comedy central; all the characters were waiting for a phone call, and when it rang they moved their mouths just like these martians and started doing the ‘yip yip yip uh huh, uh huh!’ we fell right over, we did. she told me none of her friends got the joke.
maybe not deep in my subconscious—i didn’t watch much sesame street until i was a bit older than its target audience, so I guess I would have first seen this fairly late in childhood, or maybe even in my teens… but i always loved the muppets & still remember the shock & real grief i felt when i heard jim henson had died— my weblog’s subtitle ‘of things near & far’ is, in part an homage to grover’s famous Near!…Far! sketch.
