case 225

today we present another in our series of transcribed case studies from the 1886 classic psychopathia sexualis, specifically a case under the “theft dependent on fetishism” heading. (previous cases include 123, 88, and 98 / 99) by way of lead in- “pathological fetishism may become the cause of crimes. as such there are now recognized hair despoiling, robbery or theft of women’s linen, handkerchiefs, aprons, shoes, and silks. it cannot be doubted that such individuals are the subject of deep mental taint...”

Do I smell a freudian fetish here? I actually envy most fetishists, since they exactly know what gets them off.

a, stay-at-home mom, 29, family tainted, emotional, irritable early in the morning, saw the movie Flashdance when she was eight and became subject to exhibitionistic fits comprised of running in place in leg warmers and capezios.  After seeing the movie Fame her fate was sealed and and she pursued a dance career, serving with excellent record.  But whenever she would pass a strip club, she would choke with fear, palpitation of the heart would set in, she would tremble, and profuse perspiration would break out all over her body. although conscious of the risk involved, she was irresistibly forced to throw on her leg warmers and capezios and jog furiously in place.  OH WHAT A FEELING!  We’ve all got secrets.
