The Village Voice offers: Model Behavior. A short interview with Molly Crabapple, founder of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. I, for one, love the idea and yet it seems slightly inadequate somehow. Can it avoid the stain of hipster trendiness which ultimately relegates so many good ideas to fad-status in short order? I would prefer a noon to 4 a.m. establishment with continuous model-sitting and booze. A sort of dive bar for life-drawing. Imagine the monday afternoon crowd at such a place!

Would that I could have a dive bar with models from noon till 4 am.  Unfortunately, I’d have to shell out 300 bucks for the girl. I like to pay models well, and being a broke monkey, that’s just beyond my budget.

In the meantime, try the excellent Pratt Drawathon, held every April.  Orgy, I tell you!

Oh, golly Ms. Molly, set up a franchise in Asheville, NC! Lest I pine away to a cadaverous state from missing out on NYC. It’s bad enuf going through life without easy access to the Museum Mile, the Cinco de Mayo on Cortelyou, and SEA in Williamsburg.

Been browsing Uwe Scheid’s archive a bit. People haven’t changed that much, eh? This shot will still be a classic in a thousand years:

Curiously, when I tried to post the full URL I got this message:

I added the ZZZ’s to get it past whomever or whatever is now censoring me.

@Molly: I hear you loud and clear. Hope you didn’t take offense at the 4 words “stain of hipster trendiness” strung together as they were. I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about. Maybe someday after the apocalypse the Art Students League will morph into just such an establishment, a sort of old west saloon of Art, where we all mosey in to drink acrid moonshine and draw three-legged mongrels leashed to their three-eyed owners, before slinking away into dawn light toward our secret nests in the sewer systems below.
