came across this site. a very large collection of anti iraqi war posters, from folks around the world. from a design standpoint, it’s par for the course, some are pretty cool, some are funny, some are elegant, but most are just awful.
i found the posters interesting mostly for the collective picture they paint of the world’s view of america, which is evidently pretty one dimesional. the profusion of mcdonalds and disney imagery strikes me as laughably simplistic somehow. ronald and mickey are symbols of our capitalism run rampant, of course, but aren’t they really pretty impotent and outdated at this point? their use strikes me as just plain lazy. how can you make your point powerfully, how can you make people think, when you rely on the most tame, predictable, images and comparisons? so for poster designers world wide, listen up… no more leaders with hitler mustaches, no more mickey ears, and no golden arches! if you want your work to be thought provoking, which i assume any anti-war piece ought to be, try thinking a little yourself before putting pixel to photoshop page. anti-war posters are not the same as a fark contest. ok?
