well while i was away i’m sure i missed a lot of goodies. i tried to catch a few in my net for use upon my return and this is one of them: a new scientist feature counting down what the contributers consider to be life’s 10 greatest inventions. they are: multicellularity. the eye. the brain. language. photosynthesis. sex. death. parasitism. superorganisms. and symbiosis. they forgot toe nails… i mean isn’t every damn bit of it pretty mind boggling and great? the inclusion of the eye, the oh so intelligently designed eye, put me in mind of… what else? creationism. (dirty dirty filthy isms.) the eye is of course the creationists poster-organ and would assuredly top their list, though credit for its invention would go to an altogether different “designer.” anyhow, pz over at pharyngula (a great site which seems to be a daily source of science vs. i.d. flame wars) put up the text of donald kennedy’s short editorial called: twilight of the enlightenment? may as well check that out too.
